OT Tyler Smith, Tulsa:
If the NY Giants decide not to take an offensive tackle in the first two rounds they may want to consider looking at Tyler Smith out of Tulsa.
Tyler Smith, 6-foot-6 and 332 pounds, out of Tulsa who has some potential to be a solid pro in the NFL.
Smith is an elite run blocker, using his immense size and power to bully opposing defenders in the 2nd level, earning a 92.8 run-blocking grade by PFF, which is the 5th highest grade among all tackles.
While Tyler Smith is an elite run blocker, he is also a very solid pass blocker, only giving up 2 sacks, 9 pressures, and 5 QB hurries in 11 games played this season. Earning a 72.9 pass-blocking grade by PFF.
One of Smith’s best aspects of his game is his ability to use his hands and reset. This allows him to bully opposing defenders, such as on this play right here; Smith (#56) uses both his hands perfectly, constantly resetting to prevent his opponent from pulling any moves on him. Smith then uses his power to send his opponent nearly 10 yards into the backfield.
The only problem I have seen while watching Smith and reading his scouting reports is that his footwork can be sloppy sometimes. This leads to him getting beat off the edge in pass-blocking snaps and can slow him down while pulling.
If the NY Giants decide to go in a different direction in the first round and decide not to select an offensive tackle, Smith will be a very solid option for the NY Giants in the middle rounds.
