The NY Giants released former first-round pick Isaiah Wilson Tuesday afternoon, without ever getting him on the field for a game
The NY Giants essentially admitted a mistake Tuesday, releasing troubled former first-round pick Isaiah Wilson from the practice squad.
Wilson, who has been arrested twice since being chosen by the Tennessee Titans in the first-round of the 2020 NFL Draft, never got on the field for the Giants and was reportedly a disruption behind the scenes.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Wilson even had fallen asleep during meetings, since being signed to the NY Giants’ practice squad back in September.
And … Isaiah Wilson released from the practice squad. Rob Sale’s “no comment” and then “be dependable” last week on Wilson foreshadowed this.

The Giants took a crack at the troubled former first-round pick, but I heard he was falling asleep in meetings with regularity. No good
The NY Giants have been woefully thin along the offensive line, as illustrated by Sunday’s performance against the Chicago Bears when New York attempted only 11 passes with Mike Glennon getting sacked on four of those dropbacks and only completing four passes.
That Wilson couldn’t get on the field this week, or any week for that matter, underscores just how far away he was from being able to compete at the NFL level.
When the NY Giants close out the season on Sunday afternoon against the Washington Football Team, the only tackles currently on the active roster are Andrew Thomas and Nate Solder.
Clearly, the NY Giants have decided that potentially moving an offensive guard to tackle should catastrophe strike Sunday provides more valuable than getting Wilson on the field, or keeping him around at all.
