NY Giants defensive coordinator Pat Graham sounds open to the idea of interviewing for head coaching vacancies, and will likely have no shortage of opportunities to

NY Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham declined an opportunity to interview for the Jets’ head coaching vacancy last offseason, but will likely be a hot commodity in coming weeks during this year’s hiring cycle.

“The idea is to be a head coach one day,” Graham told reporters prior to Thursday’s practice.

FanSided has learned through league conversations that Graham will likely be a highly sought after candidate for teams with head coaching vacancies, after his strong two-year tenure overseeing the Giants‘ defense.

“His makeup and background are really impressive,” an NFC personnel director tells FanSided, on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorized to speak about other teams. “I’ve heard a lot of impressive things about him, and he’s done a really nice job with what he’s been given to work with.”

Graham’s NY Giants enter Week 18 No 20 in total defense, and is holding teams under 25 points per game, despite losing captain and inside linebacker Blake Martinez, and safety Jabrill Peppers to season-ending injuries and a revolving door of players — particularly in the secondary this season.

One of the critical aspects of Graham’s success has been his adaptability in terms of meshing scheme with personnel, a trait that league insiders believe is paramount to becoming a successful head coach.

It would likely take the right opportunity to pry Graham away from Joe Judge’s coaching staff, but he likely will have no shortage of interview opportunities.
