The New York Giants’ general manager search has begun, as the organization requested to interview Kansas City Chiefs Director of Player Personnel, Ryan Poles

The New York Giants have requested to interview Kansas City Chiefs Executive of Player Personnel Ryan Poles for the general manager job vacated by Dave Gettleman’s retirement, according to multiple reports.

Poles, 36, has garnered interest for general manager jobs in the past, interviewing twice last season for the Carolina Panthers’ vacancy, prior to the Giants requesting to speak with him this year.

With the Kansas City Chiefs, Poles has been a trusted lieutenant of general manager Brett Veach and Mike Borgonzi. His background is in college scouting, where he rose up the ranks of the Chiefs’ front office, after serving as the Director of College Scouting, prior to ascending to his current position.

“Smart, decisive, and highly regarded around the league,” NFL Network’s Peter Schrager wrote. “Poles has had an opportunity to learn under Andy Reid and Brett Veach, while helping build a perennial championship contender.”

Poles has been instrumental in the Chiefs’ rise in recent years, having spent more than a decade in the organization, including as a strong advocate for Veach and the Chiefs to draft Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith, who have become key contributors almost immediately in Kansas City.

Interviewing Poles is a departure from the perception that New York Giants owner John Mara would focus the search on internal candidates, such as assistant general manager Kevin Abrams, or a candidate with strong ties to head coach Joe Judge.
