The Miami Dolphins firing Flores Monday caught many executives inside the league by surprise, and it is fair to wonder if Flores’ availability played any role in Mara ultimately deciding to move on from Judge.

A Brooklyn native, Flores might be an ideal fit for the New York Giants, because of his hard-nosed personality, and the fact that he’s a stickler for accountability.

Flores’ Dolphins won eight of the final nine games to close out this season, underscoring that his players play hard for him. Miami, under Flores was 24-25 over his three seasons at the helm.

An interesting wild card element to Flores’ candidacy in New York, is the fact that his connection to Deshaun Watson could prove valuable if the Giants decide the organization can stomach any negative backlash from acquiring Watson in a trade, should he be cleared of his legal issues. Few teams are better positioned than the New York Giants, with a pair of top-10 draft picks, to make a play for Watson, who might want to play for Flores.
