The New York Giants’ season is over, a fifth consecutive double-digit loss campaign and third last-place finish in the NFC East this decade, which means changes are coming
With the New York Giants miserable 4-13 season finally coming to an end, there are many players on the current roster who will likely not be returning to the team next season, whether these players are released, traded, or just simply have expiring contracts, it is likely that next years roster will be very different than it is currently.
However, there are three names on the roster who played important roles on this year’s team who likely will not return.
Here are 3 New York Giants veterans who likely played their last game on the team:
New York Giants TE Evan Engram:
While Evan Engram did not necessarily play poorly this season, the combination of the New York Giants cap issues next season and Engram’s expiring contract make it likely that the Giants will not be able to retain the former first-round pick.
In 14 games played this season, Engram tallied 45 receptions for 404 yards and three touchdowns. When you consider how poorly the offense performed all season, these stats are not that bad, however, it is not good enough for a player that was taken in the first round.
Engram’s career with the New York Giants was not the most ideal, becoming more known for his negatives than his positives and not living up to his title as a first-round pick, however, for a good portion of his career, he was a solid contributor.
Despite the fact that Evan Engram somehow made a Pro Bowl last season, many fans were not happy with his play and have not been for a long time, often being booed at during home games.
In 64 games played during his NY Giants career, Evan Engram tallied 261 receptions for 2,824 yards, 16 TD’s, and 22 drops, only playing a full season one time.
As unfortunate as it is that Evan Engram’s tenure as a NY Giant did not work out as expected, I believe a new team for Engram will work out for the betterment of both sides, a new start for Engram could be very beneficial to the rest of his career.
