Backup Quarterback

A position that does not seem too important until it is needed.

No team can attest to this more than the New York Giants, especially over the final month of this season.

Daniel Jones sprained his neck on November 28th against the Philadelphia Eagles, he was inactive for three weeks being placed on IR December 20th, officially ending his season. That left the Giants with former Tampa Bay third round pick Mike Glennon.

Glennon played in six games ending with stats that are not for the weak of heart. He threw 4 touchdowns against 10 interceptions for measly 790 yards. Glennon looked like the journeyman quarterback he is. He was extremely indecisive and his decision making led to several poor plays.

Former coach Joe Judge made the switch to former Georgia star Jake Fromm.

Fromm made his first NFL start December 19th against the Cowboys. Amazingly Fromm played in two more games putting up stats that were worse than Glennon. He finished with one touchdown against 3 interceptions, throwing for 210 yards. T

he entire franchise was no doubt spoiled for 16 years knowing Eli Manning was going to be there on Sunday without question. Jones has not been an iron man like Manning. Jones has had three consecutive seasons in which he has missed at least two starts. He is mobile and fast, so yes, he is prone to ankle injuries, hamstring strains, and unfortunately concussions. Last season proved the Giants need a backup quarterback that can come in and still give the team a chance to win.
