With the New York Giants set to have the No. 5 and No. 7 overall picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, it seems as if they are in prime position to select a potential superstar player, they should be, at least, if they draft correctly.

A good way to look at the New York Giants’ odds of selecting a potential superstar is to take a look at the players selected with the No. 5 pick in previous draft classes, and boy, the No. 5 pick has had some pretty solid players in previous years.

While there have been some disappointing players selected with the fifth overall pick recently, this should not deter Giants fans from being excited about owning this pick, as there are still some studs who have been selected with the 5th pick.

There is a good chance that the New York Giants decide to draft an offensive lineman with the No. 5 pick, while there has not been a lineman taken with said pick within the last five years, that does not deter their star potential.

Let’s take a look back at the 5 previous No. 5 overall picks in the NFL Draft to see what the New York Giants can expect:

2021 NFL Draft: Ja’Marr Chase, LSU/Cincinnati Bengals

In a somewhat shocking move at the time, the Cincinnati Bengals decided to select Joe Burrow’s former college teammate Ja’Marr Chase out of LSU with the fifth overall pick.

This selection was shocking because the Bengals were in desperate need of an offensive lineman, and with both Penei Sewell and Rashawn Slater still on the board, it seemed like the obvious move to draft one of the two-star offensive linemen.

However, the decision to draft Chase ended up being the right move, as Chase ended up having one of the best rookie seasons for a wide receiver of all time, helping the Bengals make the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

In 17 games played this season, Chase caught 81 passes for 1,455 and 13 TD’s while also making his first Pro Bowl.

Chase already looks to be one of the best receivers in the entire NFL as a rookie and is sure to have an extremely successful career down the road, showing that he was absolutely the right pick for the Bengals.
