2017 NFL Draft: Corey Davis, WR, Western Michigan/Tennessee Titans

In what is probably the worst out of the previous 5 No. 5 picks, the Tennessee Titans selected Corey Davis out of Western Michigan.

Generally, when you draft a receiver this high you expect them to be one of the best in the NFL, just like Chase, let’s just say that hasn’t been the case for Davis.

Davis had a very rough start to his NFL career, after dealing with a hamstring strain that would cause him to miss 5 games during his rookie season, Davis would finish the year catching 34 passes for 375 yards and 0 TD’s in 11 games played his rookie season, while also dropping 6 passes. This was definitely not the way any NFL player would want to start their career.

Davis would bounce back somewhat during his sophomore season, catching 65 passes for 891 yards and 4 TD’s, however, despite this solid season, this is not the level of production you want from your No. 5 overall receiver.

Davis would go on to finish his career with the Tennessee Titans failing to have a 1,000 yard season for the remaining 2 years he played for the team. With that in mind, the Titans decided to let Davis walk in free agency where he eventually signed a 3 year $37M deal with the New York Jets.

However, injuries would cut his first season with the Jets short, only playing in 9 games, finishing the season tallying 34 receptions for 492 yards and 4 TD’s, alongside 5 drops, not the best way to start fresh with a new team.

Davis’ career has without a doubt been a disappointing one, failing to produce a 1,000 yard season thus far in his career, while there is still plenty of time for Davis to turn things around, it does not change the fact that the Titans could have had playmakers like Mike Williams, Jamal Adams, Marshon Lattimore, etc.
