Ken Dorsey will likely need to choose following Brian Daboll to the New York Giants to work with Daniel Jones or call plays for Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills
After the New York Giants hired Brian Daboll as head coach Friday night, Ken Dorsey has a decision to make.
Dorsey, who has served as the Buffalo Bills’ quarterbacks coach since 2019 and has been instrumental in the development of MVP candidate Josh Allen, will become an offensive coordinator next season.
But, it remains to be seen whether Dorsey will follow Daboll to East Rutherford and join the Giants‘ coaching staff or remain in Buffalo where he would have the chance to call plays for Allen, who just completed 63 percent of his passes for 4,407 yards with 36 touchdowns to 15 interceptions this season.
The expectation is Daboll will be the New York Giants’ play-caller, and his work with Allen was likely a drawing card for general manager Joe Schoen along with owners John Mara and Steve Tisch to hire Daboll in the first place.
There could be upside, though, to Dorsey following Daboll to New Jersey.
If Jones makes the kind of leap the New York Giants are hoping, and aiming to facilitate, in his fourth season, Dorsey could become a hot commodity next offseason when the head coaching carousel fires up anew.
However, there might be even more upside for Dorsey to remain in Buffalo, where he’d have the opportunity to call plays for Allen, who is coming off an MVP caliber season.
Dorsey has long been linked to Allen, who has completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 12,040 yards with 93 touchdowns to 34 interceptions since Dorsey’s arrival in 2019.
All signs point to Dorsey becoming a coordinator in the coming days or weeks, but which quarterback and coaching staff he decides to hitch his wagon to could go a long way towards determining his own head coaching future.
