The Chicago Bears will interview New York Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey on Sunday, according to NFL sources

New York Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey will interview for the Chicago Bears’ special teams coordinator vacancy, league sources tell FanSided.

McGaughey, 48, has been a hot commodity this hiring cycle, having previously interviewed for the Los Angeles Chargers and Carolina Panthers jobs.

Under McGaughey’s tutelage, the Giants developed into one of the strongest special teams units in the NFL.

Under McGaughey’s tutelage this season, the Giants finished as the No. 10 ranked special teams unit in the NFL in Rick Gosselin’s rankings, easily New York’s highest-rated unit during what was a fifth consecutive double-digit loss campaign.

New York also finished No. 10 in the NFL in special teams DVOA during the 2021 campaign.

The Bears finished No. 9 in Stroud’s rankings last season.

A Chicago native, McGaughey spent two seasons as the Panthers’ special teams coordinator prior to his arrival in East Rutherford, and held the same position for one season each with the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets previously.

McGaughey’s NFL coaching career stretches back to his time as the Kansas City Chiefs’ assistant special teams coordinator in 2002
