Round 1, pick No. 7: LB Nakobe Dean, Georgia

Nakobe Dean is a player to be excited about, especially when you consider how poorly the New York Giants’ linebackers played this season, alongside Blake Martinez coming back from a torn ACL.

Dean is one of, if not the best all-around LB prospects in the entire draft, with the ability to attack the QB, play in coverage, and be a run stopper, there are few things he can’t do.

In 15 games played this season, Nakobe Dean tallied 72 combined tackles, 8 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 10 tackles for loss, while only allowing 21 receptions on 36 targets (58.3%) 122 yards.

Dean possesses great awareness in both pass coverage and run-stopping snaps, this is something that current NY Giants linebacker Tae Crowder lacks.

A great example of this occurs on this play here:

Dean stutters for a second to read where the run is going, then uses his tremendous speed to shoot the gap and stop the running back in his tracks.

If this speed and awareness translate to the NFL Dean has the potential to be a star in this league right out of the gates. Dean’s potential as a do-it-all linebacker is something that is not often seen.
