Round 5, pick No. 145: DB Smoke Monday, Auburn

With Jabrill Peppers likely not returning next season, alongside the chance that the New York Giants decide to cut Logan Ryan in order to avoid going over the cap, a good candidate to come in for the NY Giants is Smoke Monday out of Auburn.

Coming in at 6-foot-3 and199 pounds, Smoke Monday not only possesses an epic name, but he also has the tools it takes to be a great player in this league.

Monday is not only great during run defense snaps, he also has the potential to be a very good player in coverage.

In 13 games played this season, Monday tallied 65 tackles two sacks, one interception, three pass deflections, and 9 tackles for loss, Monday also allowed 22 receptions on a 68.8% completion percentage (career-high) for only 255 yards and 2 touchdowns.

While Monday is not the best player in coverage, as he has the tendency to get lost in zones, he has had moments where he’s shown potential in that area.

However, with this lack of elite pass coverage, comes elite potential as a run defender, something the NY Giants need.
