Ken Dorsey chooses Josh Allen, Bills over joining New York Giants’ Brian Daboll, Daniel Jones
Despite some speculation, Ken Dorsey might join Brian Daboll’s staff with the New York Giants, Dorsey will stay in Buffalo where he’ll call plays for Josh Allen
If Brian Daboll is going to pass off play-calling duties during his first season as New York Giants head coach, he’ll need to pick someone other than Ken Dorsey as offensive coordinator.
That’s because the Buffalo Bills Tuesday promoted Dorsey to offensive coordinator, keeping the sought-after assistant on staff, and maintaining continuity with their MVP caliber quarterback, Josh Allen.
There had been some thought that Dorsey would follow Daboll to East Rutherford, but it would seem the opportunity to call plays for Allen for the first time was far more appealing than doing so for Daniel Jones, as the Giants’ quarterback enters his fourth NFL season.
Why Ken Dorsey’s decision to stick with Josh Allen over New York Giants’ Daniel Jones makes sense
Prior to Tuesday’s promotion, Dorsey had been Allen and the Bills’ quarterbacks coach since his arrival in 2019, and worked under Daboll ever since.
Dorsey now positions himself to potentially become a hot commodity during next offseason’s hiring cycle, if Allen continues on his current trajectory, and the Bills make a run at the Super Bowl.
There was always a chance that Dorsey could boost his one resumè even more if Jones made a leap, but it seems as though that was too risky a move for Dosey’s liking.
Especially because Allen is coming off a season in which he passed for 4,407 yards with 36 touchdowns to 15 interceptions.
The New York Giants, and Daboll, continue interviewing potential offensive coordinators this week, but Dorsey can be scratched off the list.
