The New York Giants appear headed towards a reunion with a former player.

Never say never. That’s what the New York Giants are expected to do Monday.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that the Giants appear to be re-signing their former backup QB, Dabis Webb. Webb was infamously the NY Giants’ 3rd round pick in 2017 who was once floated as the apparent heir to Eli Manning.

That obviously never happened and Webb didn’t even make the team in 2018.

Since leaving the New York Giants, Webb has stuck to the New York/New Jersey areas.

Webb caught on with the Jets in 2018 where he lasted until the final cuts of training camp in 2019. From there, he latched onto Buffalo where he made a lasting impression on now Giants GM Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll.

Webb has always been well-regarded for his football mind and his obsession with film and diving into the playbook. He was a solid prospect coming out of California where he took over after Jared Goff’s post. Before his one season at Cal, Webb beat out Baker Mayfield for the starting QB and was the starter ahead of Pat Mahomes in two of his three seasons with Texas Tech.

Webb never found his footing as a starter in the NFL and seems best suited as a career backup QB and understudy who can help act as another QB coach. The Giants need a new backup (or two) after Mike Glennon was spectacularly bad last season and Jake Fromm didn’t do much better.

Webb may not be the primary backup but he will at least serve as competition for whoever the Giants presumably add to their QB room for 2022. They are looking to improve in whatever ways they can at the game’s most important issue and now their old draft pick looks like he will land back with the NY Giants.
