New York Giants Trade Back Target #3: OT Trevor Penning, Northern Iowa

The New York Giants must find a permanent solution to their rotating door that is their right tackle position.

If they think that player should come through the draft, then they should look closely at Trevor Penning from Northern Iowa. Penning is a small-school prospect but from one that has produced players all over the NFL for the last half-decade or so.

Penning is a mammoth of a man at 6’7, 330 pounds or so. Penning was 1st Team All-MVFC in 2021 after dominating the competition all year long. Throughout his time at UNI, Penning played extensively at both tackles spots over five seasons.

Penning is going to be a fun player to watch on Sundays in the NFL. Penning can put people to waste when he gets his hands on them and extinguishes them downfield. Defenders can be hopeless when Penning gains leverage due to his long arms and his deft footwork to stay in a good position.

Penning was a force to be reckoned with at the Senior Bowl. He constantly showed up and stood up any incoming pass rusher his way. He put to bed the small school questions that come with his draft profile and he proved he can compete with and dominate against some of the top defenders in this draft class.

Even better, Penning showed a nasty streak in Mobile that few other players consistently showed in practice. Penning always competed through the whistle and constantly was shoving players after the whistle too as they got frustrated with their inability to move or get past the NIU product.

Penning is a fun player to watch and his small-school background makes him an easy player to root for. Adding him to the New York Giants would provide some new hope and optimism for their right tackle spot for 2021 and the future.
