Round 6 (No. 181 Overall): Ali Fayad, Edge, Western Michigan

Why would he be a good value for the NY Giants?

Fayad was the MAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 and put up some monster numbers. His 12 sacks and 17 tackles for a loss should raise the eyebrows of the new defensive coordinator, Wink Martindale. He flies off the edge and has a nose for the quarterback.

How would he fit on the 2022 Giants roster?

He projects as a situational pass rusher in the NFL.

Since Martindale is the most blitz-happy defensive coordinator in the NFL, a guy like Fayad could be schemed on blitzes to take advantage of his pass-rushing tools. He lacks the length and pass-rushing moves to be a traditional edge player.

NFL Comparison: Quincy Roche

Fayad, like Roche, could be useful as a part-time player in a blitz-heavy scheme. Both are undersized, but both have a knack for getting to the QB. The Giants need more players like them.
