The New York Giants ‘new head coach offered his own insight on the Giants’ red zone struggles in 2021.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The New York Giants are going in a new direction as they head into another new era in the 2020s.

Head coach Brian Daboll is the new leader of the franchise and he will be tasked immediately with fixing a broken offense highlighted by an incompetent offensive line and question marks lingering around the team’s quarterback.

The Giants faltered mightily in the red zone in 2021.

New York ranked dead last in the league with a paltry 44.74% for touchdown conversions in the red zone.

Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills offense, led by Daboll, was the league’s best red-zone offense all season in 2021. They ranked #1 in red-zone scoring while finishing drives with red-zone TDs at 66.28%.

Daboll is looking to implement a new offense tailored to his players’ strengths and the red zone will be a massive part of that. When asked about the Giants’ offensive red zone struggles in 2021, Daboll admitted it is a serious issue.

“The name of the game is to score points and stop them from scoring points,” Daboll said Tuesday at the NFL Combine.

Daboll urged, “When you get down there, you gotta try to get seven, not three”.

Daboll highlighted the importance of finish and how most NFL games are so close for most games and end up in one-score games. “These games are usually pretty close” Daboll admitted.

Daboll spoke about how this isn’t an easy or overnight fix. It will take time, it won’t come easy, but with more and more reps the offense should become more comfortable and confident in these oh-so-important red zone opportunities and capitalize on them.
