Austin Blythe, Center

Kansas City Chiefs center Austin Blythe played just 12 offensive snaps throughout the  2021 regular season.

Blythe suffered a hernia injury during the off-season and served more as necessary depth for the Chiefs’ offensive line.

Prior to his one year-stint in Kansas City, Blythe was a starter for the Los Angeles Rams. During the 2020 season, he recorded 1120 snaps, the third most of any center that year. He also allowed just four sacks, which was also the third-least among all centers. He finished the season with a 69.3 PFF grade.

Blythe has the ability to be a starting level center for this Giants offense. With current center Nick Gates dealing with a potentially career-threatening injury and the disappointing play of Billy Price last season, going out and addressing this position in free agency is a real possibility. Blythe has proven that he can play at a high level and wouldn’t expect a massive contract due to barely playing in 2021.

The signing of Blythe would also allow for more flexibility in the draft. Having a solid starter at the center position would allow for the Giants to address other necessary spots with their earlier picks.
