NFL Draft: Ranking New York Giants’ Round 1 offensive linemen targets

General manager Joe Schoen and the New York Giants could look to the 2022 NFL Draft to rebuild an offensive line that has been a concern for several seasons

The New York Giants had one of, if not the worst offensive line’s in all of football this season, making it likely that they look to select some lineman in this years draft.

Holding the No. 5 and No. 7 overall picks, the Giants have the potential to draft a superstar on the offensive line, if they select the right player that is.

This years draft class is very deep in terms of offensive lineman, with it seeming likely that up to 5-8 offensive lineman are selected in the first round. With this in mind, it makes sense to rank these offensive lineman in terms of their talent and potential.

To decide where each player ranks, I will be looking at their PFF grades, stats, film, and where they go on different mock drafts.

Here is where the New York Giants’ first round offensive lineman targets rank amongst each other in the 2022 NFL Draft:

No. 8: OL Kenyon Green, Texas A&M

This may be a bit of a hot take to put such a coveted prospect like Kenyon Green last on the list, but after watching some of his film, looking at some stats, and reading some scouting reports, it’s easy to be concerned about Green’s draft stock.

Green is still a high potential prospect, whether it be his insane athletic ability in the run game, or his ability to play every position on the offensive line. However, there are some negative aspects to Kenyon Green’s game that have caused me to rank him so low.

For starters, he has struggled often in pass blocking snaps, obtaining a pass blocking grade of 65.7 per, PFF. While statistically this may not seem too bad, as he has only allowed 1 sack, 2 QB hits, and 7 QB hurries, watching him play can bring some worries.

Kenyon Green often struggles with his footwork and hand placement in pass blocking snaps, which can lead to him getting beat if a defender crosses inside. While this is something that can be fixed, it is still worrisome to watch.

However, despite his issues in pass blocking snaps, Kenyon Green’s best aspect is his ability in run blocking snaps, this is where he thrives. Using his combination of strength and athleticism, Kenyon Green makes life a nightmare for opposing defenders. While he sometimes struggles with his hands in the pass game, they are no joke on run plays, once Green latches on to you, its game over.

While Kenyon Green is an elite run blocker and a true swiss army knife, his issues with the pass game are too worrisome to warrant me putting him over some of the other prospects on this list.
