Round 4, pick No. 109: Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida

One of the first moves the New York Giants made to create cap space last week, was release veteran running back Devontae Booker. Additionally, the organization sounds wholly prepared to trade Saquon Barkley, even if sources around the league tell FanSided that may be a Herculean task given Barkley’s limited market.

However, even if Barkley returns to the Giants’ backfield in 2022, finding a young complement is a must during this draft.

Pierce isn’t just a violent and explosive between the tackles runner but he’s also an elite pass-blocker, which could alleviate some of Barkley’s deficiencies in that regard.

Last season, Pierce averaged 5.7 yards per carry and scored 13 touchdowns.

During the Combine, Pierce ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59, but shouldn’t be discounted based on his time because his film offers plenty of examples of his explosiveness and an ability to make defenders miss with jukes and quick-cuts.

At some point, the Giants are likely to take a running back in this draft, and Pierce is a worthy complement — and possibly a high upside replacement for Barkley.
