Round 5, pick No. 146: Luke Fortner, C, Kentucky

Given Nick Gates’ uncertain future following a devastating leg injury back in Week 2, the New York Giants will likely aim to add at least one center this offseason.

During his time at Kentucky, Fortner proved he can be a road grader in the running game, an area the Giants desperately need to upgrade.

More importantly, especially as the Giants continue to sound committed to building around Daniel Jones, Fortner appeared in 848 snaps but allowed only two sacks and five quarterback hurries while in Lexington.

If the Giants pass on Linderbaum in Round 1, and wait to address the center position until the later rounds, there might not be a better fit of fills a more glaring need based on skill-set than Fortner.
