Joe Schoen has a heavy lift ahead of him, as the New York Giants’ new general manager undertakes an overdue rebuild, but the NFL Draft offers much promise

The current New York Giants roster is full of holes at many positions, whether it be due to a lack of talent, or a simple lack of players in said spot.

However, the Giants can easily fill in these holes through the draft, as they own nine total picks, including two first-round picks, two third-round picks, and two fifth-round picks.

This year’s draft class is very deep in positions the New York Giants are in need of, whether it be on offense or defense, and if the New York Giants draft correctly, they could very easily fill these holes in and make the roster much better than it currently is.

Here are 3 positions New York Giants must upgrade during the NFL Draft:

Linebackers:

The linebacking core of the Hew Giants last season was a very weak one. While yes, this was in part due to the absence of Blake Martinez, who went down with a torn ACL early in the season, the core as a whole is still kind of weak.

Outside of Martinez, the current New York Giants linebacker core consists of Tae Crowder, T.J Brunson, and Carter Coughlin, all of whom are former seventh-round picks.

While the New York Giants added some solid depth to the position in Benardrick McKinney and Jaylon Smith, both of these players contracts expired and they will likely not return.

Out of all of the players listed above, the one who played the most was Crowder, who was not very good this season.

While he put up some impressive stats, tallying 130 combined tackles, his play goes much deeper than his stats.

On paper, 130 tackles is very impressive, a lot of these tackles came from Crowder coming in late to the play, as he does not possess the ability to diagnose a play and hit the correct gap, something that hurt the NY Giants defense all season.

However, the New York Giants may not have much need for Crowder soon, as this draft class is full of potential stars at the linebacker position.

Whether it be first-round studs like Nakobe Dean or mid-round players with tons of potential such as Quay Walker and Chad Muma, the New York Giants have a very good chance of fixing their major gap at the linebacker position if they draft correctly.

The best move for the New York Giants to make is to draft Muma in the third round if he is still available, as he has the potential to be a superstar in this league.
