Round 6, Pick No. 183: Malcolm Rodriguez, LB, Oklahoma State

Malcolm Rodriguez would be another ‘tweener for the Giants in this mock draft, but that also means a guy you can lineup at linebacker and drop into coverage, or lineup in the secondary and send after the quarterback.

The main knock on Rodriguez is his size, at 5’11 and 225 pounds, he’s going to be overpowered in the box in the NFL too often.

But he’s good in coverage, reads the quarterback well, and can throw a big hit. He’s got solid speed for a linebacker. He was obviously productive at Oklahoma State. Last year he had 129 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, three sacks, an interception, four passes defended, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

If he’s going to make it in the NFL, it’s going to be as a weapon that gets moved around the defense. Perhaps Wink is the right coordinator to try to make that happen.
