The New York Giants released veteran safety Logan Ryan on Thursday afternoon
The New York Giants released veteran safety and defensive captain Logan Ryan Thursday, sources confirm to FanSided.
Ryan posted a farewell to New York and Giants fans on social media Thursday afternoon, after he was made aware of the move:
The New York Giants signed Ryan to a three-year contract worth $31 million last Christmas morning, but Ryan was due a $5 million roster bonus on Friday that he will no longer collect.
According to a report from the New York Daily News, the Giants did not designate Ryan as a June 1 cut, and thus will save only $775,000 against the cap, while triggering $11.45 million in dead money.
It would seem that moving on from Ryan was more of a move to turn the page from the prior regime — both front office and coaching staff, while clearing the way for young payers to see more meaningful snaps.
Ryan arrived in East Rutherford as a free agent during training camp ahead of the 2020 season, and through two years in a Giants uniform produced 211 total tackles with two sacks, and one interception.
Where do New York Giants go from here after releasing Logan Ryan?
Releasing Ryan clears the way for Xavier McKinney to take on an expanded role in the secondary and could push Julian Love into the starting lineup alongside him.
It is abundantly clear that the New York Giants aim to get younger players on the field this upcoming season, especially in the secondary.
