Former New York Giants third-round draft pick Lorenzo Carter inked a one-year “prove it” deal with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday morning
Former New York Giants edge rusher and the team’s third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Lorenzo Carter, signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons Monday morning.
Carter, a University of Georgia alum, never quite lived up to his third-round billing during his four seasons in a Giants uniform.
However, the 2021 campaign was one of Carter’s most consistent, producing a career-high five sacks with 50 total tackles and one interception.
Even last season, Carter didn’t produce his first sack until Week 11, underpinning his inconsistency.
Carter seemed to be rounding a corner early in the 2020 campaign, producing one sack before rupturing his Achilles tendon in a Week 5 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. In four seasons in East Rutherford, Carter totaled 153 tackles with 15.4 sacks and one interception.
Edge rusher remains a glaring need for the New York Giants, who will likely prioritize the position during next month’s NFL Draft, and seemingly are in prime position to land one of the premier prospects at the position, owning picks No. 5 and No. 7 overall in the first round.
