Round 7, Pick No. 235: Carson Wells, LB, Colorado

Carson Wells could develop into an inside linebacker for the Giants, and seems to have the right set of tools and skills to do just that. He’s 6-foot-4 and weighs 250 pounds, running the 40 in 4.53 seconds. Not all of that speed necessarily translates onto the field, though, as his chase speed can leave something to be desired.

However, he plays with a high motor, reads plays well, and drops into zone coverage quickly and smoothly. He has a good feel for where he is on the field and keeps opponents short of the sticks. The question will be whether his ability to read plays and react will offset some of his deficits in speed or power. If so, he can be a productive linebacker at the professional level.
