Targeting tight ends in the NFL Draft

Getting a young tight end would not only be cheaper but would give the New York Giants time to develop a team where a player could thrive.

While this class is not necessarily loaded per se, there are still some decent options available in mid to late rounds. This helps the Giants especially as their first rounds will most likely be offensive linemen and some of the great defensive players of this draft.

Trey McBridge has come out as the best available tight end in this year’s draft, and the Giants could pick him with their second-round pick. The Colorado State product led FBS tight ends in receptions and yards and would be a solid target for Daniel Jones in 2022.

In terms of the Giants though, they will be looking to take players at other positions on the defensive end, or even focus on the offensive line that early. The late-round diamonds in the rough are what New York will most likely go for if they are to draft a tight end.

Tight ends are players that can usually fly under the radar, and that applies to Isaiah Likely out of Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleer had an impressive 12 touchdown season, including one that went for 99 yards.

Likely is a player that is quick and can turn upfield with speed, which would bode well as the Giants are looking to pick up young and fast receivers. He is also a player that has the potential to slide in the draft, so this team could wait to snag him in the mid-round section.

Charlie Kolar will also be available in that area of the NFL Draft if the Giants want to focus on getting a tight end that’s better at blocking as well.

Kolar’s 6’6 frame puts him in a position to go up and get red-zone targets, but also hold off defensive linemen in the blocking end.

He is also an experienced player who had a legendary career for the Iowa State Cyclones and would bring leadership to the locker room, especially the tight end room.

Things may look bleak with only one tight end signed to the roster currently, but with some new potential additions, the Giants can find a way to plug this hole.
