LB Chad Muma, Wyoming:
Chad Muma may be the most underrated player in the entire draft class.
As things currently stand, the New York Giants linebacker core looks pretty weak, with the only notable player being Blake Martinez. If they can add a player like Chad Muma to the core, the defense will improve dramatically.
In 13 games last season, Muma tallied 148 combined tackles, three interceptions, and eight tackles for loss. While these stats are absurd, a small portion of it is due to weak competition he played against. However, if you watch Chad Muma play, you can see just how special of a talent he is.
Whether it be his elite tackling ability, good ability in zone coverage, or simply enough, his ability to diagnose plays and hit the correct hole at the right time in run situations, Muma brings a lot of things to the NY Giants linebacker core that was missing prior.
Last season we saw just how poor the linebacker core was for the New York Giants, with Tae Crowder and Reggie Ragland being the Giants two top options at the position, it was rough to watch. While they put up solid numbers, watching them play showed just how much of a liability they were, especially in coverage.
A player of Muma’s talent could have the potential to bring immense changes to the New York Giants’ defense for the future, which is why the Schoen and Co. should prioritize drafting the talented backer.
