Round 1, Pick No. 7: TRADE

Derek Stingley Jr. went sixth overall to the Panthers, and a few trade offers came in for this pick.

Baltimore had the most enticing interest and overpaid for the pick, so the deal was a no-brainer. If you’re going to move down in the first round, you obviously want to make sure that you’re fairly compensated. The Ravens went above and beyond.

RAVENS GET: 7th Overall pick (1st round), 182nd overall pick (6th round)

GIANTS GET: 14th overall pick (1st round), 45th overall pick (2nd round), 76th overall pick (third round), 196th overall pick (sixth round)

On the famous draft trade value chart, the Giants gave up 1,517 points of value and received 1,771 points of value in this deal – the gap was like getting a free early third-round pick.

There’s often more value in moving down than moving up, as teams will sometimes overpay when they really covet a player.

Given that the Giants have wide-ranging needs, it makes a ton of sense to work the phones during this year’s draft.
