NFL Draft: New York Giants host intriguing edge rusher for top-30 visit

The New York Giants continue to do their due diligence on some of the NFL Draft’s top pass-rushers, including Oklahoma’s Nik Bonitto

Edge rusher is a top priority in the NFL Draft for general manager Joe Schoen and the New York Giants, and as draft weekend approaches, the organization is doing its due diligence on several prospects at the position.

Most recently, the New York Giants hosted Oklahoma’s Nik Bonitto on a pre-draft top-30 visit.

Bonitto could be a fascinating target for the Giants, if he is available in Round 3, and schoen opts to pass on addressing the position with one of New York’s pair of top-10 picks in Round 1.

Last season, Bonitto, 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, 39 total tackles with seven sacks, one forced fumble and three fumble recoveries, as one of the Sooners’ more dominant front-seven defenders.

The New York Giants’ need at pass-rusher is significant, especially after Lorenzo Carter’s departure via free agency. Last season, the New York Giants produced only 34 sacks, 24th most in the NFL.

Given the relentless pressure via exotic blitz packages defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale relies on, Bonitto could be an ideal piece of a pass-rush rotation along New York’s front seven.
