New York Giants’ second-year cornerback Aaron Robinson could be the perfect candidate to have a breakout season in 2022

Aaron Robinson missed nearly half of his rookie season due to injury. He was thrown into action in a week eight matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. As the season progressed and the New York Giants’ secondary was hit with injuries, Robinson was occasionally given a bigger role.

With his playtime constantly fluctuating, it was difficult to see exactly how productive Robinson could be in the NFL.

While in college, he proved himself to be an above-average corner. After transferring from the University of Alabama to UCF, Robinson spent one season in a backup role and then earned the starting job.

Over his final two seasons, he played in 22 games for the Golden Knights’ defense. In this time, he recorded 95 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and three interceptions.

Why Aaron Robinson will make major strides for the New York Giants in 2022

This upcoming season could see Robinson step into a much bigger role on the Giants defense. He played in just 268 total snaps last season and had four games where he had less than 10 defensive snaps total.

Robinson played well when on the field. He finished the season with 26 total tackles and three passes defended. He posted a PFF grade of at least 64.0 in six of his nine games. He also proved himself as a capable player in run defense. He finished with a run defense grade of 75.3.

Given the possibility of a James Bradberry trade still on the horizon, Robinson could find himself playing in the second cornerback spot alongside Adoree’ Jackson. Even if the Giants select a cornerback with one of their top picks in this month’s draft, Robinson will still see a bigger role this upcoming season.

His defensive snaps could potentially be doubled in 2022 and he will be completely healthy. Given that he can continue to progress and pave a larger role for himself within the defense, Robinson could be primed for a breakout next season.
