The New York Giants will likely select at least one edge rusher during the 2022 NFL Draft, but who are the prospects to watch beyond those at the top of the board?

The 2022 NFL Draft class is full of edge rushers, some are sure-shot stars like Aidan Hutchinson and Kayvon Thibodeaux. While others have more questionable futures and are set to get drafted in the later rounds of the draft.

Depending on the way the beginning of the first round guys, the NY Giants may have to rely on the mid-to-late rounds to draft an edge rusher. While they may not be as NFL-ready as some of the players in the first round, they still have a ton of potential.

Here are the NY Giants top 3 mid-round edge rushers in the 2022 NFL Draft:

Sam Williams: Ole Miss University

Sam Williams has tremendous upside as a pass rusher.

At 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, Williams had a monster season at Ole Miss this year. In 13 games played this season, Williams tallied 47 combined tackles, 13 sacks, 40 QB hurries, eight QB hits, four forced fumbles, and 15 tackles for loss.

Now I’m sure you’re wondering how a player who put up stats like this is going to fall into the middle rounds of the draft, and that is because from a technical standpoint, Sam Williams has a lot to work on.

For starters, he needs to have a wider array of pass rush moves, there are far too many times where he just attempts to bull rush or throw his opponent with his hands as opposed to using an actual move to get around.

Alongside this he needs to work on his hand usage, when he doesn’t get the edge on a tackle immediately his hands get sporadic and he often ends up losing the set.

However, there is still a lot of things to like about Sam Williams. For example, he has tremendous burst and speed off the edge, which is his main weapon. This was shown in the NFL Combine where he ran a 4.46 40 yard dash.

If Williams can work on his pass rush moves and general strength, there is a very good chance that he ends up being a star in this league.
