2022 NFL Draft: Ranking New York Giants’ top 3 mid-round edge rushers
Michael Clemons, Texas A&M:
Last, but not least, we have Michael Clemons out of Texas A&M.
Coming in at 6’5, 270 pounds, Michael Clemons showcased a lot of potential this season at Texas A&M. In 10 games played, Clemons tallied 8 sacks, 11 QB hits, 27 QB hurries, 28 combined tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 11 tackles for loss.
These numbers are very impressive when you remember that Clemons only played in 10 games this season due to a arrest prior to the season. In August of 2021, Michael Clemons was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
While this may scare some fans off, Michael Clemons has had no prior history of trouble, so I am not that worried about this being a potential problem, especially when you look at the upside he brings on the field.
Whether it be his immense strength, great hand usage, or ability to play up front or on the edge. There is a lot to like about Michael Clemons’ ability on the field. Clemons has a great ability to disengage from blocks on run plays, when you combine this with his elite strength, he becomes nearly unstoppable at times.
As for some things Michael Clemons needs to work on. For starters, he is very stiff at times with his pass rushing snaps, which can cause him to get caught up on a blocker easily. However, his strength and mobility negates this a lot of the time. Alongside this, Michael Clemons must get better at tackling. In 10 games, Clemons missed 7 tackles, equivalent to 20% of his attempts. This is because of how stiff he can be at times.
If Michael Clemons can work on a couple of things both on and off the field, he has the potential to be a very solid player in this league.
