NY Giants Pick 173. Jaylen Watson, CB, Washington State

Washington State’s Jaylen Watson has had one of the more interesting paths to the NFL. After spending his first two seasons at Ventura College, Watson found himself at USC in 2019 but was unable to play which led to him taking the year off. Eventually, he landed at Washington State, where he spent the past two years developing into a quality cornerback.

Watson played just a total of 15 games at the FBS level. In this time, he played in 864 total snaps. But when playing, he was highly effective. He recorded 44 total tackles, seven passes defended, and two interceptions in his two seasons at Washington State.

At 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, Watson has the size that teams are looking for in their cornerback. The glimpses of potential that he has shown make him an intriguing option for any team. Given proper development, he could become a quality defensive player.

NY Giants Pick 182. Haskell Garrett, DT, Ohio State

The Giants could use depth along the defensive line. Ohio State’s Haskell Garrett could help fix this issue. Garrett spent five seasons at Ohio State, but really became productive when he earned the starting job in 2020. In his two years as a starter, Garrett recorded 42 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. He led Ohio State in sacks in 2021 with a total of 5.5.

At 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, Garrett will have to get bigger if he wishes to be productive at the next level. His pass-rushing skills aren’t the greatest but they are good enough to where he can make an impact to some extent.

He has widely become effective because of his mix of speed and power. He can often beat blockers before they have a chance to be prepared. But many people believe that he will have to get even stronger if he wishes to use this same skill set in the NFL. Garrett can become a rotational piece for this defensive line. While there is potential for him to become more in the future, he should be able to immediately step in and help in some way.
