3 players the NY Giants must avoid in Round 1 of 2022 NFL Draft
With the 2022 NFL Draft right around the corner, the NY Giants have done their due diligence in terms of scouting to make sure they draft the correct players. In addition to the Giants, I, myself, have done a ton of scouting and analysis on the players from this year’s draft class.
In terms of potential prospects in the first round, there are several players whom I would add to the Giants roster in a heartbeat. However, there are also some prospects who I would prefer the Giants avoid entirely.
Whether they be a project player that the Giants may not want to spend time to develop or a player I am just simply not high on. There are just simply some prospects I want the Giants to avoid. Here are 3 players the Giants should avoid in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
NY Giants Players To Avoid: EDGE Travon Walker, Georgia
The rise of Travon Walker is something that has confused me recently. While I absolutely see his upside as a massive edge rusher with the potential to get better. I also see a lot of negatives in him.
For example, he can certainly develop more pass rush moves to become a more consistent presence off the edge. I am unsure if it is the right move for the Giants to take a risk on what is essentially a project player.
The most exciting thing about Travon Walker thus far is his size, speed, and athleticism. Coming in at 6’5, 272 pounds, Walker managed to run an impressive 4.51 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. However, from a statistical and viewing standpoint, there are several things that Travon Walker must work on.
For example, as of now, Travon Walker projects to be a bull rush type of player off the edge. This is something that is preventing him from becoming a more consistent threat. If he is able to develop pass rush moves I believe he could potentially be the best edge rusher in the class.
However, with how long the Giants have been rebuilding, I don’t know if it is worth it to take such a big risk on a player like Travon Walker. Especially if a player like Kayvon Thibodeaux is available. Who, in my opinion, is more pro-ready than Walker.
While at the end of the day, it depends on what positions the Giants value in this year’s class. There are other edge rushers, like Thibodeaux, who I would rather have on the Giants than Walker. To sum things up. While I absolutely see Travon Walkers’ upside, I am unsure if it is worth the risk to take a player with so much to work on so high in the draft.
