With Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft starting up again tonight, there are several players the NY Giants should look into drafting. There are several positions on the current Giants roster which need to be filled. For example, the Giants need a better linebacker to put next to Blake Martinez. With this in mind, I believe the Giants should draft Nakobe Dean out of Georgia.

Nakobe Dean was a projected first-round pick at linebacker who, for some reason, slipped out of the first round. However, despite his fall, I believe he has all of the tools it takes to come in and make an instant impact on the Giants’ defense.

Coming in at 5’11, 229 pounds, Nakobe Dean put together a very solid season at Georgia. In 15 games played this season, Dean tallied 72 tackles, 8 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 forced fumble.

Despite these rather impressive stats, the main reason for Nakobe Dean’s fall to the second round is his size or lack of. 5’11, 229 pounds is quite a small size for a linebacker. However, this is really the only notable knock on his game.

From a technical standpoint, Nakobe Dean has it all. He is quick at making reads and hitting the correct hole-on-run players. This is something the Giants are missing with current linebacker Tae Crowder. In addition to this, Nakobe Dean has also shown a ton of promise in pass coverage, having the speed and IQ to stick with routes in a zone.

Outside of his ability to play, the Giants should draft Nakobe Dean for the simple fact that it is a position of need. As things currently stand, the Giants linebacker core is looking pretty bleak. Consisting of Blake Martinez, Tae Crowder, TJ Brunson, and Carter Coughlin, the linebacker core is in desperate need of an upgrade.

If the Giants decide to draft Nakobe Dean, it is likely that he will have the chance to make an immediate impact on a defense that desperately needs him. Whether it be his ability in both the pass/run game, his speed, agility, or just simply filling a position.

There are so many reasons why the Giants should draft Nakobe Dean. At the end of the day, he is a first-round talent who has fallen out of said round. If he is available when the Giants make their selection at pick 36, Joe Schoen and the front office should not hesitate to draft him.
