NY Giants Day 2 Target: Jalen Pitre, S/CB Baylor
There is still no movement in terms of what the Giants will do with veteran cornerback James Bradberry. A trade could still be on the horizon, especially at some point tomorrow. After Day 1, we have already seen that teams are willing to make a big trade to get the player that they want.
Even if there are no trades involving this Giants secondary on Day 2, it could still make sense for them to add a youthful player to the group. Baylor’s Jalen Pitre could be the perfect fit. Pitre was a monster for the Baylor secondary over his final two collegiate seasons.
Throughout his last 23 career games, he recorded 156 total tackles, 31 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and 13 passes defended. He also racked up 5.5 positions, even while playing in the secondary.
Pitre has carried the safety label ever since moving into the secondary in 2020, but he has been utilized all over the field. He has spent meaningful time in the slot, the box, and the line of scrimmage. Regardless of where he has played, he has made his presence known.
Pitre being the sort of player that can rotate around the field would help this defense open up even more. There is also a good chance that he is good enough to become their full-time slot corner. During the 2021 season, he recorded 601 of his 909 defensive snaps in the slot. He finished the season allowing just 268 yards on 54 targets. Quarterbacks had a 55.2 passer rating when targeting him.
Pitre has everything that a team looks for in a secondary player. He blows up plays all over the field, can dominate the run game, and will be able to make an impact immediately. He could prove to be the perfect Day 2 fit for this Giants team.
