NY Giants draft a solid run-blocking tight end in Daniel Bellinger
On Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft, the NY Giants have finally addressed an area of need on their offense. With the No. 112 overall pick in Round 4, the Giants selected tight end Daniel Bellinger out of San Diego State. In the grand scheme of things, this is a fantastic pick for Big Blue.
At 6-5 and 253 lbs, Bellinger is the kind of tight end the Giants need to infuse a big target in the positional group. Besides what he brings to the table as a tight end, he also specializes as a very good run-blocker which we all know was another area of need on the Giants’ offense.
Bellinger immediately should bolster that part of the offense to enable running backs to do what they do best with better blocking during rushing attempts. In four years at San Diego State, Bellinger put up some decent numbers but again, made a name for himself as a solid run-blocker.
The NY Giants got it right by drafting tight end Daniel Bellinger
He totaled 771 receiving yards, 68 receptions, five touchdowns, and averaged 11.3 yards per reception. Bellinger is a reliable player who loves to give it his all on every down he’s a part of, especially in those critical 3rd and short situations where a first down is needed. He mostly would do his part as a blocker to do his part and keep those chains moving.
Bellinger is also very good when it comes to his pass protection skills which also checks off another box for the Giants. It’s no secret that the Giants’ overall pass protection has been lackluster the past few years but selecting Bellinger should help the cause as early as this upcoming season.
Hopefully, things pan out with Bellinger as he gets used to life in the NFL but he should definitely make an impact when it comes to this aspect of the Giants’ offense. These are the kind of moves that are brilliant and hopefully, Bellinger develops into a high-quality tight end that can do it all with the football in his hands or blocking to help the Giants’ offense get back to its efficient ways.
