If Jerry Jones had his way, the 2022 NFL Draft would have gone completely different for him. Yes, the Dallas Cowboys landed standout offensive tackle Tyler Smith with the No. 24 pick, but he wasn’t who Jones and Co. were hoping for.
During a press conference, Jones’ wishlist was spotted and it turns out he had Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux as his No. 1 target, while Alabama’s Evan Neal checked in at No. 2. To make things worse for Jones, both those players are East Rutherford-bound, with the NY Giants taking the two at No. 5 and No. 7, respectively.
Jerry Jones revealed his draft board. Very interesting to peak behind the curtain and see an actual team’s list - not the media’s. Noteworthy rankings:

NY GIants picks of Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal just got even better
If you’re a Giants fan, you’ve got to be over the moon knowing the two guys at the top of Jones’ board will be suiting up for New York starting this fall. If anything, this only made the night even worse for Jones and the Cowboys.
Hey, Dallas is used to disappointment, as ‘America’s Team’ continues to blow it year after year. In 2021, the team’s fanbase had hopes of the Cowboys potentially going on a Super Bowl run. Instead, they totally choked in the NFC Wild Card Round, suffering a stunning home loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
It may have been a year to forget for the G-Men in ’21, finishing 4-13 and in last place of the division, but there’s simply no denying this team is primed for a bounce-back season in 2022. There’s plenty of excitement for New York, especially after so many important additions in the NFL Draft.
From the opening snap of the season, people all over the country will be ready to see what both Thibodeaux and Neal will be able to get done. Neal is a stud lineman and he’ll be ready to dominate in both pass protection and his run-blocking duties. Meanwhile on defense, Thibodeaux will be hungry to record plenty of sacks. Fans are looking forward to him applying heavy pressure on Aaron Rodgers for the Giants vs. Packers game over in London.
The thought of Neal or Thibodeaux suiting up for the Cowboys probably makes people in New Jersey and New York cringe. It’s what Jones was hoping would happen, but Joe Schoen and the Giants front office went ahead and made sure that would never happen. That’s probably going to sting for Jones for quite some time.
