NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen is already having people believing again, as he’s making big splashes left and right. Things couldn’t have gone much better for the team in the 2022 NFL Draft, as the additions of first-round picks Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal were huge. Both those studs have incredible futures ahead of them.

Fans are also hoping they don’t turn out to be big-time busts, which we’ve seen several times over the years with top New York picks. In this piece, we take a look at three first-rounders that simply didn’t work out for the G-Men, with the list no question including the one and only Ereck Flowers.

3. 2015 No. 9 pick Ereck Flowers

Flowers had so much potential coming out of the University of Miami in 2015. With his incredible size, checking in at 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, Flowers was easily one of the biggest guys in the draft that year and the Giants viewed him as a perfect fit to be the leader of the offensive line for years to come. The opposite was the case.

Flowers spent the first three years of his career with the Giants at left tackle, starting 46 games at the spot. He never lived up to his first-round billing and the frustration among the people in the stands was growing with each snap. He felt like a liability protecting Eli Manning’s blindside and something needed to be done.

New York ended up moving Flowers to right tackle in hopes of it sparking some sort of change in the massive lineman. Nothing seemed to improve and the Giants ended up cutting him midway through the 2018 campaign. Flowers joined the Jaguars and he’s since suited up for Washington and Miami. He’s currently a free agent. This was a major swing and miss for the Giants front office, no doubt about that.
