Countless hearts broke in late September last season when starting NY Giants middle linebacker Blake Martinez went down on the turf and wasn’t able to get up. Soon after that, it was revealed that Martinez had suffered a torn ACL in the matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. Just like that, Martinez’s season was over.

As tough as that was to see, Martinez has been grinding non-stop ever since to get himself back close to full health for the 2022 campaign. Thus far at OTAs, Martinez may not be a full participant, but he’s been reminding people of his old self in some team drills. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan has been on the scene and has liked what he’s seen from the veteran ‘backer.

NY Giants LB Blake Martinez is looking healthy at OTAs

Martinez has provided veteran leadership for the Giants since he made his way to East Rutherford from Green Bay. The 6-2, 235-pounder spent the first four years of his career with the Packers before signing with the Giants ahead of the 2020 season. That fall, Martinez started 15 games and recorded an insane 151 tackles, adding three sacks.

He had some huge expectations leading up to 2021 and he was still able to record 23 tackles before suffering his knee injury. Again, the second Martinez went down in tremendous pain, it was nothing short of deflating for the Giants fanbase.

The good news now, though, is that Martinez is slowly but surely working his way back. The fact that he’s at OTAs and still able to move around is fantastic to see. He’ll keep on moving forward with his rehab and be ready to rock this fall. It could be another strong season for the veteran LB, one that he’ll be motivated to perform at a high level in.

LG Shane Lemieux is also back for the NY Giants

Not to be forgotten, but left guard Shane Lemieux is also moving around well at OTAs after suffering his season-ending knee injury last year too. Lemieux was only able to play in one game for the Giants in ’21. He underwent season-ending surgery in late September for his torn patellar tendon in his left knee.

Lemieux, a 6-foot-4, 310-pounder, joined the Giants in 2020 as a fifth-round pick. He appeared in 12 games for the Giants in ’20, making nine starts. With the offensive line looking much more promising for New York – highlighted by the addition of first-round pick Evan Neal – this is obviously great news for Daniel Jones. Lemieux will play a big role in keeping the QB upright.
