Patrick Mahomes going out of his way to help Mike Kafka and NY Giants QBs
Patrick Mahomes is beloved all over Kansas City and it’s looking like he’s going to gain some more fans in New York. That’s because the superstar quarterback is helping out NY Giants quarterbacks learn the new system being operated by offensive coordinator Mike Kafka? You better believe it, folks.
While speaking with ESPN Giants insider Jordan Raanan, quarterback Davis Webb revealed that he has FaceTimed Mahomes a couple of times (they’ve known each other since their Texas Texas Tech days) with Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor to go over concepts of some different plays that have been run in KC. Mahomes obviously doesn’t have to do this, but it looks like he’s ready to help out Webb and Co.
Patrick Mahomes helping out the Giants QBs is great to see
The Giants and Chiefs aren’t scheduled to face off in 2022, so it’s not like Mahomes feels like he’s giving away any important information to a big-time rival. Obviously, if Kafka would have made his way to the Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders or Los Angeles Chargers, then this probably would be a different story and Mahomes wouldn’t have been so open to connecting with Webb like this.
However, Kafka is now in East Rutherford ready to run the Giants offense and expectations are high for him. The same can be said for Jones, who is showcasing plenty of confidence at OTAs. He’s definitely going to have some more pep in his step now that he’s been able to hear some tips from Mahomes with Webb and Taylor close by.
Mahomes recently announced that he and his wife are expecting their second child. He’s of course a very busy man, but that doesn’t mean he can’t sneak away for a few minutes to help a friend in Webb out. This is also a big help for Kafka, another buddy of Mahomes despite the two no longer working together.
Jones, who didn’t have his fifth-year option picked up, wants to make sure he has a monster year in 2022 so he can lock down the starting job for the Giants for the long haul. He doesn’t want to be remembered as a first-round bust who only lasted four seasons with the team.
Having Mahomes provide him with help will surely pay off from start to finish this campaign. Things will get started for New York against the Titans in Week 1 and countless eyes will be on Jones to see what he’s made of.
