Fans in East Rutherford were hoping NY Giants No. 5 overall pick Kayvon Thivodeaux would be able to show how electric he is at OTAs, but instead, the rookie has been donning a red jersey for quite some time now. Head coach Brian Daboll said Thibodeaux got ‘twisted’ on during a practice, so it looks like the staff is taking is easy with him for now.

However, Daboll also has been pretty vague about Thibodeaux’s work at OTAs and he even went on to leave the door open that he may not be able to get started at training camp on Day 1. This feels like Daboll is being a bit cautious on what he has to say about his stud outside linebacker, but it has certainly caused some worry for the fanbase.

The fact that Daboll can’t guarantee Thibodeuax will be ready for the start of camp indeed is concerning. Fortunately, Thibodeaux was able to get in some running and also some agility drills despite not being a full participant. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan was on the scene to provide video of that and Thibodeaux doesn’t appear to be moving as gingerly as people assumed.

Regardless of that, Daboll’s latest quote on his first-round pick isn’t going to fire anyone up about Thibodeaux. People have been quite worried that he hasn’t been able to rock at OTAs. He’s of course not the only one, however, as several playmakers for the Giants have been wearing red jerseys this week.

Once we get closer to August, there’s of course going to be a ton of worry on Thibodeaux if he’s not close to 100 percent leading up to the season. With this, though, the coaches of course are going to want to be careful with him and not bring him back into action too soon. This will obviously be something to monitor closely.

Thibodeaux enters the season with some huge expectations, as people are ready to see if he can break Azeez Ojulari’s rookie sacks record of eight this upcoming campaign. In order for Thibodeaux to make that happen, he’ll need to get himself healthy and get rid of that red jersey he’s been wearing.
