Here we are in June and there’s still multiple NFL veterans hoping to get a phone call so they can suit up in 2022. For NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen, he’s no doubt a bit strapped for cash, but that doesn’t mean he can just sit back and not make any moves moving forward. The defense still needs some help, especially at cornerback.

With the release of former Pro Bowl CB James Bradberry, who has since signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, it has left a major hole in the secondary for the G-Men. While Schoen signed Maurice Canady this offseason, there’s no guarantee he makes the 53-man roster. If you ask Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton, Schoen needs to sign a veteran CB as soon as possible.

NY Giants should consider Kevin King, Joe Haden and others

"“The Giants could take a look at Joe Haden, Xavier Rhodes, Kevin King, A.J. Bouye and Janoris Jenkins (for a second stint),” Moton wrote. “They all have extensive starting experience on the perimeter. Among that group, King makes the most sense. Unlike the other four cornerbacks, he’s younger than 30 years old and still in his prime. Though the former Green Bay Packer has struggled in recent years, he could benefit from a change of scenery with new opportunities elsewhere.”"

There are several names Moton thinks would make sense for the Giants. He mentions Joe Haden, Xavier Rhodes, Janoris Jenkins, A.J. Bouye and Kevin King. As you can see, Moton is high on King potentially joining New York, as the former Green Bay Packer still has some good football left ahead of him. Things didn’t quite go as planned for King with the Packers.

However, a move to NY could be what’s needed to help him get his career back on track. Keep in mind that King is only 27 years old. He’s got starting experience and isn’t some washed-up player on his last leg. Instead, King could sign with the Giants on a one-year, prove-it deal and see how things go for him.

Worse-case scenario, Schoen and Co. take a risk on him at a reasonable price and the two sides move on. Imagine if King gets back to top form, though, and makes a strong impact on the defense for ’22.

Regardless of it’s King or not, Schoen needs to bring in another quality talent for the cornerbacks room. The sooner he can get this done, the better, and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale would surely appreciate it.
