This is going to be downright intriguing. Remember the last time the NY Giants and NY Jets held a joint practice together? The year was 2005 and the Black Eyes Peas and Sean Paul were still relevant in the music scene. It’s indeed been 17 years since the two East Rutherford sides decided to put the pads on together.

Now, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the expectation is that the Jets and Giants will ‘likely’ hold a session together ahead of their preseason showdown in late August. No one has forgotten about the fight that broke out during the last practice. This will only add to the drama leading up to things this year.

NY Giants and NY Jets practicing together will be entertaining

These two squads will meet on Aug. 28 at MetLife Stadium for their preseason tilt, but a joint practice sure sounds great leading up to kickoff. A quick look on Twitter shows that everyone is bringing up the infamous brawl from 2005, but the hope is that there won’t be any extra fireworks this time around.

That summer when things did get a bit testy, former Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey was involved early on. Things got so heated, NY Giants legend Tom Coughlin and former Jets defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson got into a passionate argument. All in all, there were a pair of bench-clearing brawls and multiple additional scuffles.

For the Jets and Giants, the squads have been going through some lean years of late, but the fanbases are hopeful that things will start to turn around come 2022. The Giants have completely revamped their offensive line and people haven’t come down from the high of drafting offensive tackle Evan Neal and pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

While Thibodeaux has been rocking a red jersey at OTAs and Brian Daboll can’t guarantee that the No. 5 overall pick will be ready to start training camp, there are monster expectations for the former Oregon Duck this fall. The same can be said for Neal, as he’ll be thrown in right away to make countless plays in the trenches.

With the Week 1 tilt with the Tennessee Titans inching closer and closer, the G-Men faithful are ready for Daboll and Co. to turn things up a notch in preparation for the regular season to arrive. We now know this will probably feature this joint session with the Jets, which will give folks a better idea of where the club is at. That practice can’t get here soon enough.
