Although tight on cap space, the NY Giants were able to find a way to make improvements that can set up the team for future long term success. Most of the premier signings and additions to the G-Men this offseason has already taken place through free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft, which saw the Giants add edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeux and offensive tackle Evan Neal to the team with picks No. 5 and No. 7

Hitting a home run in his first offseason as Giants general manager was crucial for Joe Schoen in order to get the ball running, especially when a team has two first-round picks in the Top 10. The Giants should be happy after overcoming the difficulties of a cash strapped offseason. With that said, there’s still moves to be made here. In this piece, we take a look at three calls Schoen still needs to make.

3. Signing a veteran CB is a priority

James Bradberry was released from his contract with the Giants to clear up the books, as he had a major cap hit. Although Bradberry had been reliable and the No. 1 cornerback for the Giants, it wasn’t worth the price keeping him around considering his age and the need for the Giants looking to build for the future. Big Blue’s cornerback room is looking thinner than ever, with the only real standout name being  Adoree’ Jackson, who will be relied on more than ever.

There is some young blood that could develop into better players In the secondary such as Darnay Holmes and Aaron Robinson, but ultimately they are at best good slot corners, and the Giants have enough of them. There are still some noteworthy free agent cornerbacks available, and if the Giants decide to pursue corners, then former Green Bay CB Kevin King and Carolina Panthers AJ Bouye would be suitable options.

King had played his entire career so far with the Packers and is a bigger corner standing at 6-foot-3. He uses his size to battle for jump balls. He often saw more targets than his former teammate Jaire Alexander due to quarterbacks not wanting to target Alexander whatsoever. King is also a great tackler, tallying 66 tackles with three of them for loss of yards, and one sack in 2019 which was his best season so far.

Another option for the Giants is Bouye, a veteran of the game who has played with four teams in his NFL career so far. Bouye will be 31 years old come the start of the season which is a huge risk considering the position he plays. A one-year deal could be perfect for the Giants who really need somebody with experience in the cornerback room to go alongside Jackson.

Bouye would also be able to help this relatively young cornerback room in the short term by simply being around. The Giants will probably need to make tough decisions with potential consequences if they are to make any more additions to the team. A player will most likely need to be cut for the team to facilitate the room in money needed to sign more players. We have one in mind.
