In the newest Pro Football Focus power rankings created by Sam Munson, the NY Giants were placed in quite an interesting spot, but one that fans aren’t going to like. While they were not as low as we suspected them to be, there’s still a strong belief the Giants were a little underrated in these power rankings.
Regardless of where the NY Giants rank in this new piece from PFF, we still believe the team will outperform their expectations and potentially even make the playoffs this season.
NY Giants rank 26th in new PFF power rankings
While 26th is higher than we usually see the NY Giants land in power rankings of late, we still believe it may be a little too low. In this article, there are four different categories for each team. True contenders, could be their year, stuck in limbo and rebuilding.
The NY Giants fall in the category of stuck in limbo, alongside the Jets, Lions, Commanders, Vikings and Steelers. Interestingly enough, the Giants rank last among these teams at the previously mentioned 26th spot.
In the description under the Giants placement, Munson said this:
"The biggest additions the Giants made were at general manager and head coach, and Brian Daboll, in particular, could have a real impact on Daniel Jones at quarterback. Jones was a top-five graded quarterback in the league through the first month of the season in 2021 before the wheels fell off as the offense disintegrated around him. The Giants did what they could on the offensive line, and the receiving corps staying healthy would be a big boost for the team overall. The Giants offense could be a surprise unit in 2022."
It was very nice to see a highly touted writer such as Munson give some praise to not only Daniel Jones, but the Giants as a whole. A lot of people forgot how good Jones was performing at the beginning of the season before the team fell apart around him. If the offense can stay healthy, the Giants could surprise the entire league this season behind Jones.
Despite this ranking, we believe the Giants will be better than the Jets, Lions and possibly the Commanders this season depending on how Carson Wentz plays. While the Giants, Jets and Lions are all in similar spots roster wise, we believe the Giants have a little more talent and potentially a better coaching staff that puts them over the edge.
While it is WAY too early to determine which team in this area of the power ranking will be better than the other, the Giants simply have more talent than some of the teams ranked ahead of them. Having them at No. 26 is eye-opening, and fans will hope that the Giants will be able to make PFF look foolish this campaign.
