Although the NY Giants and general manager Joe Schoen don’t have a ton of cap space to work the rest of this offseason, there’s still around $8 million for the team to play around with. Fans have been calling for Schoen to go after a veteran cornerback following the release of James Bradberry, but could the G-Men make a move at a different position?

In a new piece for Bleacher Report, NFL insider Khristopher Knox dropped three players Schoen should consider signing to help improve the roster. Among the three, one player that stood out was tight end Jared Cook. The big-bodied TE turned 35 this spring, but still has what it takes to make an impact for a team. Could NY consider this?

NY Giants signing Jared Cook would make some sense

"“Right now, though, New York has only a pair of serviceable veterans in Ricky Seals-Jones and Jordan Akins plus rookie fourth-round pick Daniel Bellinger at the top of the depth chart,” Knox said of the Giants TE situation. “Enter 35-year-old vet Jared Cook, who we last saw helping develop Justin Herbert with the Los Angeles Chargers. While Cook is undoubtedly nearing the back end of his career, he was a potent weapon for Herbert in 2021—he finished with 48 receptions, 564 yards and four touchdowns.”"

With training camp almost here, the expectation is that rookie TE Daniel Bellinger will grab the starting spot for the Giants, while it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see Schoen part ways with either Ricky Seals-Jones or Jordan Akins. However, the addition of an experienced guy like Cook could go a long way in helping out Daniels Jones, as Knox noted.

Cook may be climbing in age, but the fact of the matter is that he’d instantly become the best tight end on the roster for the Giants if he made his way to East Rutherford. Jones would surely welcome him with open arms, as Cook’s 6-5, 250-pound frame would be a great bonus for the passing game.

You could argue the priority for the Giants is to try and land a cornerback, but bringing in a guy like Cook would surely help in more ways than one. With Cook waiting for the phone to ring, Schoen would be wise to give him a call and see if Cook would be willing to help the NFC East side on an affordable deal. You never know, Cook could be open to things and take the field for Week 1.
