Once the Cleveland Browns traded Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers, just about everyone thought all the quarterback speculation was done for the NY Giants and they’d move forward with Daniel Jones in 2022. Not so fast, folks. Remember that the Jimmy Garoppolo situation remains up in the air over in San Francisco. Could Jimmy G end up making his way to East Rutherford?

That wouldn’t come as a surprise to former Giants quarterback and current NFL Network analyst David Carr. The retired signal-caller said he thinks it’s very possible the Giants could end up making a stunning move to try and trade for Garoppolo. This 100 percent is going to be something to watch the rest of the offseason.

The Giants trading for Jimmy Garoppolo would be wild

Per Carr, he believes that teams are going to want to see what Garoppolo can do at the start of the preseason. With there being questions about the health of his shoulder, Garoppolo could calm plenty of nerves if he showcases that he can still throw the ball around a bit. Could that lead to general manager Joe Schoen calling San Francisco?

That could end up being the case. With San Francisco, this team is ready to give the keys to former first-round pick Trey Lance to see what this kid can do. Lance saw more action late in the season last year and he sure was exciting to watch. His dual-threat abilities make him special. That’s why Kyle Shanahan is ready to move forward with Lance as his starter.

This leaves the door open for Garoppolo to head somewhere else and keep on leading an offense out onto the field. Carr knows Garoppolo can still win some games for a team. That’s why he thinks the Giants would be a good fit, as Carr said NY head coach Brian Daboll and Co. don’t know exactly what they have with Jones.

With the front office not picking up Danny Dimes’ fifth-year option, he’s going to try and play himself into a new contract in ’22. However, Carr wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants don’t even give him that chance and decide to roll with someone like Garoppolo instead. A Jimmy G trade would rock New York as a whole and it’d sure create countless headlines. Stay tuned to see if Carr is on the money with his thoughts, or if this ends up being a bunch of nothing.
